Tencent’s Southwest Headquarters Open For Business

On the morning of August 25, Tencent’s Southwest Headquarters opened with a grand ceremony. Chongqing’s municipal leaders and Tencent’s senior managers led by Ma Huateng, its Chairman and CEO, was in attendance.

Situated in Zhaomushan Area of Liangjiang Digital Economy Industrial Park, the 24-story complex covers nearly 30,000m2and can accommodate 3,000 people. In addition to basic office functions, the building is equipped with Tencent’s intelligent big data products and applies artificial intelligence (AI), Tencent’s Weiling Internet of Things, Youtu facial recognition, Blockchain technologies, etc. making itself an innovative edifice featuring future smart interconnectivity.

Since the construction of Tencent Western (Chongqing) Cloud Computing Center, this Internet giant has been in the city for six years. Last year at the 2018 Smart China Expo, it announced to locate its Southwest Headquarters in Chongqing. Within a year, the project has been completed after the finalization, site purchasing, construction, and settling processes. The past year has also seen Tencent’s in-depth cooperation with Chongqing-based departments and enterprises in developing the city’s cultural label, and accelerating digital upgrade of the local companies, construction of the smart city, and talent cultivation in the digital field, etc.

Cai Guangzhong, Vice President of Tencent and General Manager of Tenent Southwest China, said, “Chongqing is a good city with abundant tourist attractions, Dazu Rock Carvings, Diaoyu Fortress, and Baiheliang, to mention just a few. Thus we need to support its development through science and technology, inherit it via Internet-based techniques, and bring new luster to this city.”

To boost the digital transformation of its local enterprises, Tencent has reached deep strategic cooperation with Changan in intelligent manufacturing, auto cloud, big data center, Internet of Vehicles (IoV), smart 4S shop, and other fields.

As for building a smart city, Tencent has made efforts in smart government affairs service, smart medical care, smart travel, and more. Specifically, in smart government affairs service, it joined hands with Chongqing Transportation Holdings (Group) Co., Ltd. and released Chongqing smart logistics platform in August 2018, aiming to support the city’s big data industry and enhance the efficiency in the logistics industry. As for smart medical care, Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University has cooperated with WeChat and become China’s first flagship hospital where WeChat Pay is available, and with all patient treatment process covered on Wechat platform. Besides, Tencent Miying, an AI-supported diagnosis assistant, has also been widely used in many local Grade III Level A hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. In smart travel, Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group, its subordinate Chongqing Public Transport Holding (Group) Co., Ltd., and Chongqing Pay-easy Company are cooperating with WeChat to launching mobile payment for bus tickets, and this service has already reached 8,600 regular bus lines in Chongqing downtown.
