In recent years, the economy and society of Chongqing have achieved a stable and rapid development, laying a solid foundation for the development and application of big data and smart technology.

First, the smart industry shows a sound development momentum. The R&D, manufacturing of complete machines, system integration, supporting parts and application services of industrial robot field have been initially formed.

Second, the platform layout is improved. The open platform system, composed of the Liangjiang New Area, 3 bonded zones, 3 bonded logistics centers, 4 open ports, 5 national economic development zones (or hi-tech zones) and 41 municipal-level development zones, has been established. The construction of China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone and China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity has been launched comprehensively, and a group of public service platforms for intelligent manufacturing equipment industry such as National Robots Test and Assessment Center (Chongqing) have been set up.

Third, information infrastructure is improved. As one of the 13 national Internet backbone direct link stations of China, Chongqing has become the first city in Western China and one of the first cities in China to have full coverage of administrative villages with optical fiber and 4G. In 2017, Chongqing has built itself into an all-optical-network city. The Advanced Data Center of Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Industrial Park has built a supporting capacity of more than 100,000 servers.

Fourth, the in-depth intelligent application of big data has been pushed forward. Chongqing's informatization development index is 72.18, ranking 12th in China and 2nd in western China. Smart technology has been initially applied to fields such as transportation, public information, public security, social governance, education, etc., ranking Chongqing the 7th among 324 large and medium-sized cities in China in terms of smart city life index.

Fifth, breakthroughs have been made in key technologies. The CloudWalk Technology Co., Ltd. is a national leader for its face recognition technology, which has been widely used in major hub airports of China. SVM has taken a lead in launching a new generation of domestic cloud computing operating system. The 8/12 inch semiconductor-grade silicon wafers developed by Chongqing Advanced Silicon Technology Co., Ltd. has broken foreign monopoly.
